How Holiday Stress Can Affect Your Skin and Body

Holiday Stress Is Showing: Give Yourself Permission to Reset

The holiday season brings some of the best things—family, traditions, parties, good food, and time with people you love. It also brings shopping lists, travel plans, packed calendars, family photos, holiday parties, and approximately 847 things that somehow need to get done before Christmas.

And sometimes, the stress starts showing.

Tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, feeling completely drained, or skin that suddenly looks dull and tired can all be signs that you've been running on empty.

At Annie's Aesthetics in Colorado Springs, we believe self-care shouldn't become one more thing on your to-do list. It should be the place where you finally get to stop.

With more than 15 years of experience in the medical field before transitioning into aesthetics, Annie brings a whole-person approach to every treatment. Our goal is simple: personalized care that helps you slow down, feel cared for, and leave feeling a little more like yourself again.

Why Holiday Stress Can Show Up in Your Skin

Stress isn't only something you feel mentally. Busy schedules, less sleep, travel, changes in your normal routine, and simply trying to do too much can affect how your body—and your skin—feels.

You might notice a tight jaw or shoulders after a long day. Your skin may feel drier than usual or look dull and tired right before the holiday party where everyone suddenly wants to take pictures.

Perfect timing, right?

That's why this season is a good time to pay attention to those little signals instead of continually pushing through them.

Sometimes what you need isn't another complicated wellness routine. You need an hour where nobody needs anything from you.

Give Your Skin a Holiday Reset

If your skin is looking tired, dry, congested, or simply not as glowy as you'd like, a customized facial can be a great place to start.

At Annie's Aesthetics, facials are personalized rather than one-size-fits-all. We look at your skin, talk about your goals, and choose the treatment approach that makes sense for you.

If you're preparing for a holiday party, family photos, or another special event, a gentle customized facial is typically best scheduled about 5–7 days before the event, especially if you're a newer client.

Treatments that may create more temporary redness, dryness, peeling, or sensitivity need more breathing room. For example, depending on your skin and the treatment selected, a chemical peel may be better scheduled 1–2 weeks or more before an important event.

Everyone's skin responds differently, so these are general planning ranges rather than guarantees. If you're unsure, we'll help you choose a treatment and timing that makes sense for your skin.

Red Light Therapy: An Easy Addition During a Busy Season

Celluma LED red light therapy is another option when you're craving some quiet downtime.

It can be incorporated into your skincare routine without turning your holiday calendar upside down, and it pairs beautifully with a customized facial.

If you're planning around an event, red light therapy generally doesn't require the same amount of advance planning as more intensive skin treatments. It can often be enjoyed within the week leading up to an event, depending on your individual skin and treatment plan.

And yes, lying still under a warm light without answering texts absolutely counts as self-care.

Planning a Holiday Spray Tan? Timing Matters.

If you want that just-back-from-vacation glow without actually having to go on vacation, timing your spray tan correctly makes a big difference.

For most special events, plan your spray tan approximately 1–2 days before the event. This gives the color time to develop and settle so it looks more natural by the time you're getting dressed and heading out.

Your prep should happen before the spray tan.

That includes exfoliating and completing any hair removal ahead of time. If you're sugaring, schedule it at least 24–48 hours before your spray tan rather than afterward.

Sugaring after a spray tan can exfoliate the skin and remove some of your beautiful new color—not exactly the holiday surprise we're going for.

Once your tan is applied, follow your specific aftercare instructions and avoid exfoliating until you're ready for the tan to gradually fade.

Don't Try a Brand-New Intensive Treatment the Day Before Christmas Photos

We love a good glow-up. We do not love unnecessary last-minute skin drama.

If you have an important event coming up, this usually isn't the time to experiment with an aggressive treatment you've never experienced before.

Plan ahead whenever possible. A customized facial approximately 5–7 days beforehand, a spray tan approximately 1–2 days beforehand, and sugaring 24–48 hours before your spray tan gives you a much more comfortable timeline.

More advanced treatments should generally be scheduled farther out so your skin has plenty of time to respond and recover.

When in doubt, ask us. We'd much rather help you create a simple holiday beauty timeline than have you standing in your bathroom two hours before a party wondering why TikTok told you to do six different things to your face.

Make Self-Care the Part of the Holidays You Actually Look Forward To

Self-care doesn't need to mean an elaborate routine or an entire day at the spa.

Sometimes it's simply giving yourself permission to stop.

At Annie's Aesthetics, we've intentionally created treatments that make that easier. Whether it's a customized facial, Celluma red light therapy, or a beautiful spray tan before your holiday event, we'll help you choose care that fits your skin, your schedule, and your goals.

Because your holiday to-do list is already long enough.

Give yourself an hour where nobody needs anything from you.

Come relax, reset, and leave glowing.

You Glow Girl.
